“A good pair of shoes that would bring you to beautiful places”

When I was young, our family was not at its best. Everytime I asked my mom to buy a pair of shoes, it would take time before I could get it. Oftentimes none at all.

 

When I learned the value of hard work, the meaning of “need” and my capability to buy myself a pair of shoes, those three things always comes to mind whenever I am in front of an array of shoes.

 

I had a fetish on shoes but only shortlived. Later on, it went down to “just” stress reliever I would say. Nowadays, I am back to simple necessity, just the basic, rubber shoes for jogging and gym, tennis shoes that I used for walking (you don’t walk much here in Doha), office shoes now in flats, a lace ballet shoes, and a red shoes, and some that went into hiding due to comfort issues. …

 

I remember when I participated a survey about shoes.. I want my response just to be all comfort, yet I have to also consider the color, the durability and the price. My top priority is comfort, So for the question about how I choose my shoes, I went on to narrate my experiences on comfort, of how I could run a mile in heels and stiletto as long as I am comfortable in it. There was one instance when my cousin and I was caught on a strike, Ayala Ave was closed from Buendia to Edsa corners, our only choice, walk. We bought a pair of slippers at Rustan’s (the first I ever bought with a tag price I don’t want to recollect as I might faint, I almost faint when we bought it!) We didn’t have a choice then, and Rustan’s was the nearest. That was the wisest, wildest decision we ever made. We have to prepare ourselves for a long walk till Dela Rosa past a crowd that no ants could survive to get home.

 

I attended a yearend party, donned a red stiletto with studs and wore it for 3 straight hours walking around, looking for friends, getting food and drinks and watching the presentations. My legs hurts the next day, but my feet was awesome!

 

When I see beautiful shoes, my face would lit up. I would always try it on and walk like a queen on the red carpet. Temptations on shoes is sometimes too hard to resist especially when I get to find one that is really comfortable. However, there are times that I am not comfortable spending humungous sum for my shortlived excitement.

 

Looking back and looking ahead, a simple shoe could make a long way, teach you a good lesson and equip you with good values. As a fan of tv dramas and series, I once watched and pondered the meaning of what the character said “a good shoes can take you to best places”.

 

As of today, after all those lessons and hardships my understanding remains. Good shoes represents your success after working hard to achieve your dreams, it is the vehicle that would bring you not only to beautiful places but gives comfort and luxuries in life.
